What makes a person an expert? An advanced degree? The esteem of peers within one’s area of knowledge? You can google it and find a definition for yourself.
I am not an expert.
I am an enthusiast. I enjoy the art of the dabble. Jill of all trades, master of none, so to speak. Cooking, sewing, drawing, painting, organ playing… I have a little bit of knowledge and skill in each area. I have infinite room for growth and improvement. Some skills, like parenting, I practice daily. Others, like welding, I look forward to practicing more at some unknown future time. (It turns out art supplies – and even an organ – are more easily stored and utilized than an arc welder. For now.)
I know I’m not alone in dabbling. I know others get excited at the prospect of a new project – and learning a new skill. I hope to share that joy with you. I hope to learn some things along the way. And I hope to connect with other individuals who are experts at the enthusiasm that drives creativity. That’s the kind of expertise to which I aspire.
